Ingredients :

      2  cups  all-purpose flour
      1  cup  brown sugar
   1/2  cup  margarine, chilled and diced
   1/2  tsp  baking soda
1 1/2  tsp  cinnamon powder
   1/2  tsp  salt
1 1/2  tsp  baking powder
      1  egg, slightly beaten
   2/3  cup  buttermilk (or milk)
      1  tsp  vanilla extract
      2  apples, cored, peeled and finely chopped

Method :

1.  Combine 1 1/3 cups flour, brown sugar and margarine in a large bowl.
2.  Mix with a pastry blender until mixture is the consistency of fine crumbs.
3.  Set aside 1/4 cup for topping and add remaining flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon powder and salt to the same bowl.  Mix well.
4.  Slowly stir in milk or buttermilk, egg, vanilla extract and apples and stir until just moistened.
5.  Evenly divide batter among 13 greased muffin cups.
6.  Sprinkle with reserved topping.
7.  Bake at 400'F for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
