WAFFLES for breakfast.
WAFFLES
Adapted : Joy of Baking
Ingredients :
1 cup all-purpose flour (130 gm)
1 1/2 tsp baking powder (5 gm)
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp white granulated sugar (25 gm)
1 large egg (lightly beaten)
1 cup milk, room temperature (240 ml)
2 tbsp butter, melted and cooled to room temperature (28 gm)
Method :
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Make a well in the center of the flour mixtre and add the egg mixture to the flour mixture, along with melted butter and stir (or whisk) just until combined. (Let the batter sits aside while you preheat the waffle machine).
Preheat the waffle machine. Lightly grease the waffle iron. Spoon or pour about 1/4 to 1/2 cup (60-120 ml) of batter onto one side of the hot waffle iron. Smooth the batter. Close the lid of the waffle machine and bake until brown and crisp (about 3-5 minutes). Serves with chocolate sauce or jam of your choice.
TIPS : Waffles can also be frozen. Once the waffles have completely cooled, wrap in plastic wrap and place in an airtight freezer bag. They can be stored in the freezer for about a month. To reheat, preheat oven to 350'F/180'C. Place the still frozen waffles directly on your oven rack and bake for about 5-10 minutes or just until they are heated through.
